About Horror Hill
Since 1984, Newnan, GA (just south of Atlanta) has been the place to go for people all over during Halloween to visit one of the most legendary haunted attractions in the United States. Horror Hill was one of the first haunted attractions in the country to become successful and usher in a new industry, the haunted attraction industry. Horror Hill has grown from a simple 100-150 ft. Long trail to four main attractions on several acres and the opportunity to camp out over night and experience a whole new level of fun. Camping at Horror Hill has fast become the most exciting Halloween tradition around!
History
In the beginning of Horror Hill, the Trail was about 100-150 feet long and took about 5 minutes to walk. Our monsters donned cheap masks and cheesy costumes and simply jumped from behind trees in an attempt to scare our few friends we invited over. Effective? Yes. It was back then. Now, with many years of experience behind us, large buildings, cabins, mazes, tunnels, bridges, trap doors, fog machines, lasers, strobes, animatronics and many other effects rule our attractions as well as some of the best costumed actors around with professional quality make up.
We added Vertigo Haunted Trails in 2005 and The Mortuary and Clown Haus 3D in 2008. Our monsters are now fully masked (latex and/or make-up) and costumed with the best and newest technology the haunt industry has to offer. We attend haunted attractions shows and seminars all over the country to constantly learn more every season. Each of our scenes is carefully set up and choreographed with trained actors and actresses complete with music. The Trails and Haunted Houses are almost COMPLETELY transformed with new scenes and acts every year. You will be guided in different segments of the trails by one of our many unpredictable narrators. Some are scary, some are tricky, some are funny, and some are MORE SCARED THAN YOU! Many of the sections of trails requires you to walk alone. Along the way you will be presented with many different scenes where you may be asked (or forced) to participate! You will enter darkened tunnels and mazes that will make you question your sanity as you get more lost at every turn. Creatures will jump out at you at every chance. They will come from the ground, the trees, and even from thin air!!
A note from the creator of Horror Hill, Allyn Glover
Hello. My name is Allyn Glover, creator/president of Horror Hill, Allyn Glover Entertainment, LLC. I am a graduate of Newnan High School in Newnan, GA. My family has lived in Newnan since 1984. The Mortuary Haunted House at Horror Hill was the home I grew up in since the age of 13. First I would like to thank each and every one of our many customers that have visited Horror Hill year after year. We have worked so very hard over the years to make Horror Hill, Vertigo, The Mortuary and Clown Haus in 3D the best haunted attractions around. We love doing this so much. I would also like to thank my family for putting up with Horror Hill and me!
We started Horror Hill in 1984 when I was 13 when we moved to Newnan from the College Park, GA area. I was between College Park/East Point area. We didn't have a whole lot to do back then. Our movie theaters closed, our teen clubs flopped and we waited all year just to go to the Kiwanis fair in September. A friend, Mike Smith, and me were sitting in the woods behind my house one day and we were talking about Halloween and how much we both loved it. I then told him about how Mom and Dad used to have Halloween parties at our old house in College Park in our basement. We used to hang sheets from the ceiling to make mazes. We had the pasta in the bowl trick and the whole bit. We called the pasta "brains" and the grapes in water were "eyeballs". We would crawl around under the sheets to get to the next "room" to scare everyone again and again. We invited the whole neighborhood over every year. It was a huge success! Mike and I sat there for a while talking about old times when I had a crazy thought. "Hey, let's cut a trail through the woods and invite friends over. When they walk through the trail we can jump out and scare them!". I thought that since we were on a huge hill that we could call it Horror Hill. The rest is pretty much history!
Back then, my Mom and Dad (Judy and Gene) would stay out in the woods in the cold and rain and help scare people. If I needed someone to help do concessions, they would do it. They never once complained. My Sister Dawn and her boyfriend (now husband) Sean would always lend a hand as well.
We had about 50 people come through that first year. We advertised at school and that was pretty much it. Then, every year we decided to have Horror Hill again. We would add a few feet to the Trail every year and more scenes. HORROR HILL would grow and grow from then on. With each passing year we got better at designing and preparing scenes. We learned how to build elaborate scenes with trap doors and other neat tricks. In the past I have been lucky to have a lot of wonderful help with the trails. Keith Morris, Chris Cook, Brooks and Sister McElroy (Maxwell), Erin Courtright, Billy Bray, Jimmy Kight, Chris Crofts, Jeremy Rice, Noah Waits, Jamie Jackson and many others have direct roots to the beginning and success of Horror Hill over the years. If I missed anyone, please email! :)
Now, many years later, thousands of people come from all over the United States just to walk through our shows. Flattering? Yes. Hard work? Yes. Has it been worth it? EVERY MINUTE OF IT. I love doing it as much today as I did in 1984. Thanks so much for visiting us.
We hope that you have a great time at Horror Hill and our second attraction which opened in 2004, 13 Stories Haunted House in Kennesaw, GA ... Please feel free to add us on Facebook if you would like to communicate with any of us.
Horror Hill and 13 Stories Haunted House will forever be dedicated to my wonderful father Gene "Pops" Glover. You are forever in our thoughts. We also pause to remember our friends Keith "Kefer" Borders and Joey Oliver. We will never forget the fun we all had with you both.
-Allyn
